Mary Chinery-Hesse (Dr.) – Board Chairman
Dr. Mary Chinery-Hesse, Chairperson of the Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited Board, is a Retired International Civil Servant with a career spanning over twenty (20) years. She has held positions such as Resident Coordinator of the UN System and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), serving in New York, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, the Seychelles and Uganda. She also served as Deputy Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), with the rank of Under Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Dr. Chinery-Hesse was Chief Advisor to the President of Republic of Ghana from May 2006 to January 2009, and currently serves on the African Union High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons (Panel of the Wise), representing West Africa.
She has received several prestigious decorations both nationally and internationally. This includes the highest National Award, the Order of the Star of Ghana. She is also a Laureate of the prestigious Gusi Peace Prize, the Asian equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize.She holds a BA (Hons) in Sociology and Economics, and Doctor of Laws (Honoris causa) from the University of Ghana; and postgraduate training in Development Economics at the University of Dublin and the World Bank Institute. Dr. Mary Chinery-Hesse acts as a consultant to several governments and International Institutions.
Henry Oroh – Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer
Henry Oroh is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited with almost two decades of experience in the banking industry. Prior to assuming this role, he served in the capacity of Executive Director with oversight responsibility for Marketing, Corporate Banking and Business Development.
Before joining Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited, Henry was with Zenith Bank Plc and served in several Managerial roles where he exhibited exceptional leadership skills and was able to inspire his Group to achieve the coveted title of “the most profitable” as well as “the highest in deposits” bank wide. His expertise cuts across operations, IT, treasury, and Marketing especially, the Manufacturing, Food and Beverages, Pharmaceuticals, Oil and Gas, Public Sector, Consumer as well as Corporate Banking.
Henry holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Benin, Benin City and an MBA from the Lagos State University. He is a Chartered Accountant and an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Nigeria. Henry also holds an LLB from the University of London. Before joining Zenith Bank Plc, he spent over seven (7) years at Citibank where he served in Operations, Treasury and Marketing.
Henry has won some local and international accolades and most recently was adjudged the Best Banking CEO Ghana, 2017 by the International Finance Magazine as well as Corporate Personality of the Year at the West Africa Business Excellence Awards 2018.
He has attended several courses locally and abroad, including Executive Management Courses at The Harvard Business School, Columbia University, University of Chicago, HEC Paris, JP Morgan Chase UK, Bode Agusto & Co., Nigeria and Lagos Business School.
Henry has a strong passion for the growth of the brand in Ghana and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of strategies which have culminated in the increase of the Bank’s capacity, size, market share and industry rankings in all parameters. He has also spearheaded the introduction of innovative banking products and services in the Ghanaian market. Under his able leadership, he has ensured that excellent customer experience remains at the centre of the Bank’s customer service strategy.
Kwame Sarpong – Member
Mr. Sarpong holds a BSc (Administration – Accounting) and Master of Business Administration from the University of Ghana (Legon) and Columbia University (New York City) (Finance) in 1967 and 1970 respectively. He was a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School (then School of Administration) between 1970/71 and 1976/77 academic years.
Before joining the Board of Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited, he was Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board in July 2001, a position he held for five (5) years.
He was awarded a National Award – Officer of the Order of the Volta on July 3, 2008 for his exemplary performance as Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board.
He currently serves on several other Boards, including New World Investments Securities Limited, Collection Africa (Ghana) Limited, Bamboo Bikes Limited and Ghana Cocoa Board.
Ebenezer Onyeagwu – Member
Ebenezer is the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) 2003 as well as an Alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania, USA (Wharton Executive Education), Columbia Business School, Columbia University, United States of America and the Harvard Business School.
Mr. Onyeagwu has over twenty five (25) years cognate banking industry experience. He worked as Credit Analyst in the defunct Financial Merchant Bank Limited and later joined Citizens International Bank Limited where he held several management positions in the Bank.
Prior to joining Zenith Bank Plc in 2002, Ebenezer worked at Citizens International Bank as a Branch Manager. His responsibilities included Head of Operations, Credit Administration & Marketing and Branch Management.
Gabriel Ita Asuquo Ukpeh – Member
Gabriel Ukpeh is an internationally acclaimed consultant in business strategy, risk management, process re-engineering and financial services, who was, until recently, a Senior Partner and Risk Quality Leader for Africa at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria with over thirty five (35) years experience in Financial Audit and Reporting, as well as a member of the Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
A graduate of accounting, Gabriel holds a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom. He obtained a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Contemporary Accounting from the Leeds Metropolitan University, UK in 2009.
Gabriel worked with PwC, an International Business auditing and consulting firm for over thirty five (35) years, and as Partner for over 20 years led, directed, planned and managed the audit, accounting, and consulting assignments for numerous financial institutions, multinationals and local companies, including most major banks in Nigeria.
Anthony (Tony) Oteng-Gyasi
Mr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi is the Founder and Managing Director of Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited, a wholly Ghanaian owned cable manufacturing company. Prior to founding this company, Mr. Oteng-Gyasi worked for a period of nine (9) years with British Petroleum.
Mr. Oteng-Gyasi holds a bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Ghana. He studied law in the same University and was called to the Ghana Bar in 1989. He also holds a diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the United Kingdom.
In the year 2000, Anthony won the Empretec Star Award for Entrepreneurial achievement. He was adjudged the Most Outstanding Personality in the Electrical Field during the 2005 Industrial and Technology (Indutech) Fair. In the same year, he was selected as the Marketing Man of the Year by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Mr. Oteng-Gyasi has served two terms on the Council of the Ghana Stock Exchange and has been a member of the Council of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He is the past Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Ghana Legon. He served two terms as the elected President of the Association of Ghana Industries was also Chairman of the Oversight Committee of the Private Sector Development Strategy.
He currently serves on the Board of the African Centre for Economic Transformation and is the Executive Chairman of Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited
He has been conferred with the high National Honours as an Officer of the Order of the Volta by the Republic of Ghana. Mr. Oteng -Gyasi is an Honorary Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Engineers and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana.
Dennis Olisa – Member
Mr. Olisa is an Executive Director at Zenith Bank Plc. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accounts of Nigeria (FCA), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB) and an Associate, Chartered Institute of Taxation (ACIT).
He has attended several international courses including INSEAD Business School, Fontainebleau, France; Havard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Booth School of Business, University of Chicago, USA; London School of Economics (LSE) UK, and Oxford Princeton Programme, Oxford, United Kingdom.
Mr. Olisa has spent over twenty seven (27) years in the Nigerian Banking Industry. He joined the services of the bank in 1998. His experience covers Treasury, Banking Operations, Credit Risk Management, Telecommunication, Oil and Gas, Internal Control as well as Branch Management and Zonal Management. Prior to his appointment as Executive Director, he was a General Manager and Chief Inspector of the bank, overseeing the Internal Audit and Inspection of the Zenith Bank Group.
