Treasury Bill Investment Services

Treasury bills (T-bills) are government-backed securities issued by Bank of Ghana usually with maturity periods of 91 days, 182 days or a year. T-bills for longer periods (1 year Treasury note, the 2 year Treasury bond, and the 3 year Treasury bond) are also available. Treasury bills are made available at all the branches of Zenith Bank.

  • Rollover only the principal amount and receive the accrued interest.
  • Roll over both the principal and the accrued interest.
  • Can be rediscounted at the bank.

Zenith Investment Plan Account (ZIPA)

Zenith Investment Plan Account is an investment account designed for SMEs and mid-sized corporates looking to save funds to meet certain future payment obligations.

Features:

  • Minimum initial deposit is GHS 100.
  • Minimum monthly deposit GHS 50.
  • Investment Advisory services.
  • A fixed amount is transferred on a specified date from the customer's account to the ZIPA account every month (standing order).
  • The customer's account must be adequately funded to facilitate the processing of standing orders. Changes to standing orders are allowed but will take effect the following month.
  • The investment automatically renews at the end of every year from the date of initial investment.

Requirements:

  • A customer instruction to carry out the investment or a duly completed investment application form.
  • Minimum Initial capital of GHS 100.
  • Withdrawals are allowed twice every 12 months (otherwise a penalty is charged).

Benefits:

  • The highest call rate published by the Bank plus a margin of 200 basis points.
  • Monthly compounding interest.

SELL BUY BACK AGREEMENT (SBBA)

SBBA is a repurchase agreement transaction whereby a party (SBBA Seller–Zenith Bank) sells securities at an agreed price to the other party (SBBA Buyer-Customer) and subsequently the SBBA buyer and SBBA seller enter into another agreement thereon whereby the former promises to sell and the latter to buy back the securities on a specified future date and at an agreed price.

  • SBBA agreement.
  • Minimum transaction value is GHS2,000,000.00.
  • Principal and interest/coupon is paid at maturity.
  • Competitive interest rates/yields.
  • Funds may be rolled over upon request.
  • 91 and 182 day SBBA is currently available to customers.

SECURITIES BACKED INVESTMENT (SBI)

Securities Backed Investment (SBI) is a repurchase transaction whereby a party (SBI Seller) sells securities at an agreed price to the other party (SBI Buyer) with the promise to buy back the securities on a specified future date (coupon payment date) and at an agreed price.

Features

  • Minimum transaction value is GHS10,000.00.
  • The SBI transaction has a fixed maturity date (next coupon payment date). The tenor of the investment will therefore be from settlement date to fixed coupon/maturity date.
  • Various tenors available.
  • Principal and interest/coupon is paid at coupon payment/maturity date.
  • Competitive interest rates/yields.
  • Funds may be rolled over upon request.

OUTRIGHT BOND SALE/PURCHASE

  • Government of Ghana and corporate bonds are available
  • Competitive yields available for a wide range of corporate and GOG bonds. Bonds are traded on yield to maturity or prices
  • Customer receives coupon payments and face value per a particular bonds coupon payment schedule
  • Minimum settlement value is GHS10,000.00

PENALTY FOR EARLY WITHDRAWAL/LIQUIDATION

  • Liquidations (whole or partial) on any date from the 1st to the 15th day of the month shall attract a penal charge of 100% of interest accrued in the month. (Applicable to ZIPA)
  • Liquidations (whole or partial) on any date from the 16th to the final day of the month shall attract a penal charge of 75% of interest accrued in the month. (Applicable to ZIPA)
